What is financial planning?

Financial Planning aims to provide you with assistance in organising your personal or business financial affairs in a tax-efficient way, in order to achieve your financial and lifestyle goals.  It involves making projections of future needs, and the assets required to meet those needs.

The steps involved include:  collecting and assessing all relevant personal and financial data; identifying your financial objectives; processing and analysing information; produing a financial plan; implementing the plan; reviewing progress and modifying the plan as your circumstances change.

This may include detailed recommendations in the following main areas:  Investment Planning, Tax Planning, Risk Management and Insurance, Retirement Planning, and Estate Planning.

We also provide specialist advice on education funding and funding long-term care.  You will find more information on these under the heading The Financial Planning Process.

Information on ISAs, the Child Trust Fund and the new Junior ISAs is provided under the heading Tax-Efficient Investments.

The page entitled Financial Planning Process provides information on tax planning, education planning, retirement planning and long-term care planning.  The following pages provide information on the building blocks of a financial plan, which are cash and fixed interest investments, alternative investments, equities, tax-efficient investments, trusts, and pensions; and for people moving abroad, or living abroad, information on financial planning for expatriates.

We are associated with two firms of solicitors, so we can provide a fully integrated service when it comes to Wills, LPAs, inheritance tax planning, and other aspects that may require legal services.

We offer advice to expatriates and people moving abroad, and we have specialist knowledge of taxation in Spain.  We are authorised to provide cross-border services into France and Spain.

The Financial Services Authority does not regulate taxation, tax planning or trust advice. Levels and bases of, and reliefs from, tax are subject to change.
